Egypt’s ICT the fastest growing sector over past five years

Egypt’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector is the fastest growing sector in the country’s economy, reaching 16.7 percent growth in FY2021/2022 compared to 16.1 percent during the previous fiscal year, according to Minister of ICT Amr Talaat.

Talaat made his statements during the third edition of the iTB/ICT Talents Bank conference organised by Huawei Technologies, held on Monday.

Launched in Egypt in 2019, Huawei ICT talent bank (iTB) provides different international certifications such as HCIA, HCIP and HCIE to Egyptian students and youth and helps them gain knowledge in the ICT sector.

The programme is being held in collaboration with ministries of ICT, workforce and higher education.

“The ICT ministry is eager to launch more programmes and initiatives that aim at training and developing university students and graduates across Egypt in collaboration with our partners in international companies. [We aim to help this group develop] the capabilities and skills to meet the labour market requirements,” Talaat noted.

Assistant of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Sherif Kishk echoed this statement, saying that such a programme gives Egyptian students the qualifications to compete in the local and international labour market.

On his side, CEO of Huawei Technologies Egypt Jim Liu said that Huawei believes that young people are the key catalyst and the backbone of achieving inclusive development in Egypt.

Huawei’s cooperation with the Egyptian government aims at enhancing the efficacy of the young cadres to lead the growth of the country’s ICT sector along with supporting the state’s digital transformation strategy, he added.
