NBN Co unveils next locations for full fiber upgrade

Australia’s NBN CO has announced that more than one million premises will gain access to full fibre connectivity as part of an ongoing upgrade programme. With the wholesale network operator having released details regarding which suburbs and towns will become eligible to upgrade to a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) service, it noted that ‘up to 58%’ of the new premises to be covered are located in regional areas, with the remainder in metro areas. The eligible premises will be able to access a full fibre upgrade from 2024.

Commenting, NBN Co’s Chief Operating Officer, Kathrine Dyer, said: ‘So far, we have identified the suburbs and towns across Australia where customers living and working in around three million premises currently served by nbn fibre-to-the-node [FTTN] will be able to access full fibre upgrades by the end of 2025.’

NBN Co’s fibre upgrade programme has been bolstered by the current government’s commitment to expand full fibre access to 1.5 million additional premises by the end of 2025, via an AUD2.4 billion (USD1.7 billion) equity investment over four years which was included in the 2022-23 Federal Budget.
