Orange to invest USD247m on network improvements over five years

Orange Cameroon has revealed that it plans to invest XAF150 billion (USD246.8 million) to expand and upgrade its network over the next five years to cope with the growth in data traffic. Business in Cameroon quotes the firm’s Managing Director, Patrick Benon, as saying that spending of XAF30 billion has been approved for this year, with the aim of ‘securing, extending and modernising the network infrastructure, with a strong focus on digitisation’, as well as improving quality of service.

Earlier this year Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Board (ART) revealed that the nation’s three mobile operators had committed to invest XAF156 billion in their operations this year. MTN Cameroon, Orange and Viettel (Nexttel) will spend the funds on extending network coverage and improving the quality of services throughout the national territory.
