Carnival Corporation announced on that they have signed an agreement with SpaceX’s Starlink — Elon Musk’s satellite technology company — to provide faster and more reliable Wi-fi for their customers.
The cruise company is already in the process of rolling out Starlink internet on its global fleet, with Carnival Cruise Line and AIDA Cruises ships. The deployment started in December 2022 and will expand to all the company brands, such as Cunard, Holland America Line, Seabourn, Princess Cruises, Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises (UK), and P&O Cruises (Australia). High-speed internet for everyone!
Carnival is not the first cruise company to implement Starlink’s satellite internet services. A few months ago, Celebrity Cruises announced the installation of this high-speed internet technology on the new Celebrity Beyond ship. Here’s what travelers should know about the new Internet service on Carnival cruises:
Carnival guests will soon be enjoying a new era of cruise travel. The new Internet service will allow travelers and crew members to download and stream content just as they would inland and stay connected to their family and friends onboard.
With Starlink Internet, guests can share photos and videos, stream movies and watch live sporting events, and easily share and see updates on social media. “In even the most remote waters, guests onboard Carnival Corporation ships will be able to share real-time updates with friends and family,” said Jonathan Hofeller, vice president of Starlink sales for SpaceX.
Travelers could soon be on exciting routes across the world, staying up to date with everything that is happening in the world and with the best entertainment. Customers have already shared their enthusiasm on social media and are looking forward to using the new high-speed and low-latency broadband internet connection on their next trips.
According to the information shared on Cruise Hive, the performance of Starlink Maritime connection is expected to surpass many traditional home services. Since the system uses a dual satellite connection, the speeds range from 100-350 Mbps for downloads and 20-40 Mbps for uploads.
The cruise company has not revealed exactly when the deployment will be finished—Carnival Corporation owns nearly 100 ships— or details about prices or if the service will be included with the price of the cabin. Travelers must wait a little longer for more details and to confirm availability on their next cruise.
