Mobi to deploy 3.5GHz network in Hawaii; inks MVNO deal covering continental US

Honolulu-based mobile operator Mobi has teamed up with Federated Wireless to bring its 3.5GHz Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) network online throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Federated Wireless was certified as a Spectrum Access System (SAS) administrator in 2020 and to date, the company has overseen CBRS deployments in Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and Guam, while the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted approval of Federated Wireless’ plans to deploy an Environmental Sensing Capability (ESC) network in Alaska on 10 January 2023.

In another development of note, Mobi has confirmed that it has launched a new MVNO solution covering the continental US. The new service – which it says leverages the ‘largest 5G network in the US’ (i.e. T-Mobile US) – has been deployed in conjunction with Working Group Two (WG2) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). WG2 has deployed a 4G/5G/IMS cloud-native mobile core on cloud architecture from AWS.

TeleGeography notes that Mobi first launched mobile services back under the Mobi PCS brand in January 2006, and covers each of the major islands of Hawaii.
