A1 Belarus looks to RAN sharing to improve network performance in rural areas

A1 Belarus, a wholly owned subsidiary of A1 Telekom Austria Group, has launched RAN Sharing technology across the country, noting that it is using it for the first time in the 900MHz band to improve network quality in more remote areas without having to build additional base stations.

In a press release, the cellco noted that adopting RAN Sharing allows it effectively to double ‘the rate of launching new base stations in its network’ and improve signal performance and mobile broadband speeds including in sparsely populated areas and rural areas.

A1 plans to complete the first phase of the project to launch 900MHz base stations using RAN Sharing technology by the end of this year with the inclusion of more than 350 new cell sites, benefiting residents in the Brest, Vitebsk and Grodno regions.
