Venezuelan mobile operator Digitel has confirmed that it has migrated its 7.2 million subscriptions to a new Optiva-built BSS platform.
The two parties note that the move paves the way for Digitel to introduce VoLTE, 5G and IoT connectivity in the coming years. Luis Bernardo Perez, president of Digitel, commented: ‘Our digital transformation is building momentum as we further embrace cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to future-proof our operations.’
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in April this year Mr Perez noted that a total of 770 of its 4G base stations were ready for 5G use, adding that it was ‘authorised’ to use its existing holdings in the 900MHz (2G/3G) and 1800MHz (4G) bands for 5G.
