Flipkart, an ecommerce platform, has launched a metaverse that allows consumers to discover products in a photorealistic virtual destination and shop on the firm’s app.
Called Flipverse, the metaverse was launched in partnership with eDAO, which was incubated by blockchain developer Polygon.
The platform offers “gamified, interactive, and immersive shopping experiences” for consumers who can access Supercoins – Flipkart’s loyalty points – as well as digital collectibles from partner brands when they make purchases.
Brands such as Puma, Noise, and Nivea will create virtual theater experiences within Flipverse to showcase their products and offers. The first phase of the platform will be live for a week for Android users.
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal said ecommerce is “one of the killer use cases” for the metaverse. “Combining top brands with Flipkart’s ecommerce expertise in a virtual environment stands to revolutionize online retail as we know it,” he added.
Founded in 2007, Flipkart has more than 450 million registered customers. It offers over 150 million products across 80 categories.
Recently, the ecommerce firm partnered with eDAO to create a digital treasure hunt during the former’s Big Billion Days event.
