Time dotCom introduces 2Gbp speeds for residential subscribers

Malaysia’s Time dotCom has announced the introduction of 2Gbps speeds for residential users, a development which marks the first commercial deployment of 10G PON technology in the country. Initially, access to the new top speed service is limited to select buildings in just three locations, those being Mont Kiara, Segambut and Desa Park City. However, the telco has said it intends to roll out access to 2Gbps connectivity ‘in stages to several more locations in the coming months’.

In terms of pricing, Time’s 2Gbps fibre broadband plan costs MYR379 (USD82) per month and is marketed as offering upload speeds of 500Mbps, alongside the headline 2Gbps downlink rate. Meanwhile, the fixed broadband plan provides end users with a 2Gbps-capable Wi-Fi 6 router, as well as two Wi-Fi 6 mesh nodes, and it also includes ‘Time Voice Home Basic’, a service which offers fixed voice connectivity on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Commenting on the new product launch, Time’s Head of Investor Relations & Special Projects, Rohaila Basir, said: ‘To this exact date four years ago, we changed the game when Time launched the first ever gig-speed plan for Malaysians. While 1Gbps still leads the market, we’ve chosen not to rest on our laurels and instead, double our speed offering once again as our customers deserve the very best.’
