AWS to enhance its presence in Mexico

Amazon has announced plans for its Mexico cloud unit to open a local zone early next year in what is, by many accounts, a fast-growing cloud services market in that country.

Amazon Web Services, a unit of multinational technology company Amazon, offers reliable, scalable, and inexpensive cloud computing services. AWS Mexico Inc, will open a local hub in Mexico in the first quarter of 2023 to boost bandwidth for its clients.

The hub would put computing, storage, database and other services closer to large populations and IT centres, increasing bandwidth for purposes such as streaming video, according to director for Mexico Luis Velasco in conversation with Reuters.

Reuters says that the hub will use infrastructure deployment called 'local zones' to run applications for real-time gaming, hybrid migrations, media and entertainment content creation and engineering simulations.

That’s not the only AWS activity in the country in the first quarter of next year. There are also plans to open new offices in Guadalajara and Monterrey. AWS Mexico is also building alliances with local companies.

A representative of Mexican ISP Totalplay has said that it will provide consulting for AWS's cloud services, partnering with AWS to boost its presence in the Mexican cloud market

This market, according to Totalplay, is only behind the US, Canada and Brazil in importance in the Americas and likely to nearly double its value of US$1.4 billion in 2021 to US$2.7 billion in 2025.
