Bell Canada announced that it will introduce faster symmetrical fiber broadband speeds of up to 8Gbps next month in selected areas of Toronto, claiming that this will give it the fastest internet speeds of any major North American provider.
Having already claimed the fastest download/upload speeds amongst major Canadian providers with the launch of 3Gbps fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) packages in April, Bell’s latest FTTH speed upgrade will be accompanied by the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E technology to further enhance the home broadband experience. A press release highlighted that Bell’s gigabit-plus fibre packages with unlimited data and ‘Giga Hub’ Wi-Fi 6E compatible modems are designed to meet demand from many customers with multiple devices connected in the home, with each device in frequent use throughout the day.
Bell plans to expand the 8Gbps footprint beyond Toronto to ‘more regions across the country’ in due course, while its new Giga Hub enabling Wi-Fi 6E will be available for customers in Ontario and Quebec starting this autumn and ‘later expanding to other provinces’.
