ANCOM reports significant rise in average broadband download speeds

Fixed broadband connections recorded average download speeds of 259.8Mbps in Romania in 2021, an increase of almost 40% compared to 2020, and average upload speeds rose by approximately 60% to 179.1Mbps, according to speed tests performed on the Netograf website developed by the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM). At the same time average mobile internet download speeds increased by 25% to 30.3Mbps while upload speeds were largely unchanged, rising from 10.2Mbps in 2020 to 10.6Mbps.

Based on approximately 187,497 tests performed during the year, the country’s leading mobile network operators (MNOs) were shown to provide the following average download/upload speeds: Orange 48.3Mbps/15.7Mbps, Vodafone Romania 29.1Mbps/10.4Mbps, Telekom Romania Mobile Communications 18.4Mbps/9.9Mbps and RCS&RDS (DIGI) 14.8Mbps/4.1Mbps. Average fixed broadband speeds were as follows: Orange Romania 854Mbps/402.3Mbps, RCS&RDS 398Mbps/348.8Mbps, Telekom Romania Communications (now Orange Romania Communications) 323.8Mbps/220.5Mbps, Nextgen Communications 306.4Mbps/294.4Mbps, and Vodafone Romania 242.7Mbps/27.8Mbps.
