Ooredoo Kuwait upgrades home broadband with FTTR

Ooredoo Kuwait has announced the commercial launch of ‘FIBER+’ fixed broadband packages featuring fibre-to-the-room (FTTR) to provide stable high speed internet access throughout homes and large spaces with multiple rooms and floors. The new FTTR solution, launched in cooperation with Huawei, underwent three months of technical tests in several locations, and customers can now order an installation via Ooredoo’s website or in any company branch, with packages starting from KWD22.5 (USD73.20) per month.

Ooredoo Kuwait CEO Abdulaziz Yaqoub Al-Babtain said: ‘The continuity of our partnership with Huawei to provide smart solutions such as FIBER+ FTTR is part of our strategic plan to advance within the digital transformation in the network field and enhance the efficiency of our network in order to provide unlimited opportunities for our customers. Users will enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience with a reliable high speed. This will also help Ooredoo Kuwait to enable companies to develop and digitise smart cities in the future.’

Ooredoo’s FTTR launch appears to have stolen a march on its rival Zain Kuwait, which recently announced it was preparing to commercially launch FTTR ‘soon after finalising all the official regulatory requirements’, also in partnership with Huawei.
