State-run telecommunications company Telkom Indonesia (Persero) has developed a metaverse platform called metaNesia, an acronym for Metaverse Indonesia, that will encourage the domestic economy and business sectors.
“People usually think that metaverse should use VR (virtual reality), whereas (in fact), metaverse is more than that,” the enterprise’s Deputy of Executive Vice President for Digital Technology and Business Platform Ery Punta Hendraswara stated in a press release on Friday.
Hendraswara remarked that VR can be used for interaction in metaverse, though it can also be achieved through augmented reality (AR).
For corporations, metaNesia can create several new business opportunities to reach the targeted markets, he emphasized.
Hendraswara noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed several aspects in life. In recent years, the companies had begun to provide their services to customers through online and offline means. The metaverse platform can combine both of the methods.
Hence, the new platform is expected to provide additional value for Telkom to serve its customers and attract new ones.
As a digital driver in Indonesia, the corporation has been developing the new technology to create an interconnected metaverse ecosystem in the country.
metaNesia is expected to become a milestone for the development of virtual economy in Indonesia that not only accommodates large companies but also facilitates micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to get new business opportunities.
Product Manager of metaNesia Andrew Tarigan remarked that the new metaverse platform will be launched on July 31, 2022, at the music event Digiland that will be held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.
Visitors can partake in several interesting activities at the event, such as the e-sports tournament and non-fungible token (NFT) art exhibition.
"At the site of the launch event, Telkom will provide several (equipment including) virtual reality (VR), VR-Driving, and PC (personal computer). With the devices, visitors can watch (Indonesian musicians) Pusakata and Vidi Aldiano’s concerts virtually,” Tarigan stated.
He affirmed that visitors can also travel around the world, visit the metaverse mall, and conduct virtual test drive using the metaverse platform.
