During a recent forum organised by UDACITY, a global educational organisation that offers training to governmental and private institutions, Kuwait’s Deputy Director-General of the Central Agency for Information Technology, Dr Ammar Hassan Al-Hussaini, discussed the importance of enhancing the skill sets of workers in the country in order to meet the requirements for building a digital economy.
In line with this, the Kuwait Central Agency carried out IT training for 4000 government employees in 2020-2021. The training programmes were held in cooperation with leading global tech players, including Huawei, Microsoft, Palo Alto, Fortinet and others.
Dr Ammar Al-Husseini, noted, “Most of the countries of the GCC, including Kuwait, suffer from a shortage of skilled workers in the field of information technology, which is negatively affecting the development process and causing delays in the completion of large and vital projects. This is one of the main challenges that prevent the creation of a suitable environment for the digital economy.”
He also referred to the most important technological scientific disciplines required in the Middle East, including cloud computing, advanced programming for cybersecurity, data science; artificial intelligence augmented reality, digital marketing, as well as mobile app solutions.
He added, “Mapping jobs and the specialisations that Kuwait needs in various scientific fields especially IT is the cornerstone in building the digital future of Kuwait in line with Kuwait Vision 2035.”
