Telefonica Deutschland, which provides fixed and mobile services under the brand name O2, has announced that coverage of its 5G network has reached 50% of the population.
The operator reached this expansion target six months ahead of the originally planned schedule of the end of 2022, with coverage now expected to reach 60% by that date. Telefonica is aiming to provide the entire population with 5G by the end of 2025. The 5G network, which was launched in October 2020, currently comprises more than 14,000 5G antennas, 6,000 of which operate in the 3.5GHz band, with the remainder using 700MHz frequencies as well as the 1800MHz band through Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), which combines 4G and 5G.
