Australian mobile operator Telstra now covers 80% of the population with its 5G network, the company’s CEO Andrew Penn has announced via a LinkedIn post. With the executive stressing that its 5G network rollout ‘is not done yet’, however, he reiterated that Telstra aims to increase coverage to 95% by 2025.
As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Telstra made its 5G infrastructure available to the public in May 2019, with coverage initially limited to select areas in ten towns and cities across the country. By January 2021 Telstra had increased coverage to 50% of the population, before it confirmed its network footprint encompassed 75% of Australians in June 2021.
