DISH Network has updated its ‘Project Genesis’ website to indicate that its 5G mobile service is now live in more than 120 cities. The update occurred a matter of hours before the long-standing Federal Communications Commission (FCC) coverage deadline was due to be breached. The satellite TV provider-turned-mobile operator launched 5G services in a solitary market – Las Vegas – in May, and questions were raised over its ability to meet the FCC’s strict licensing obligations.
Markets covered include the likes of Albuquerque, NM; Charlotte, NC; Chattanooga, TN; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Oklahoma City, OK; Orlando, FL; and Virginia Beach, VA.
As per FCC documentation, DISH promised to deploy a 5G core network and infrastructure covering 20% of the population by 14 June 2022. Coverage must now be increased to 15,000 cell sites and 70% of the US population by June 2023.
