Fixed and mobile operator XL Axiata has revealed that, working in partnership with Huawei, it continues to expand the reach of its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Indonesia and now has coverage of more than 700,000 homes in cities such as Greater Jakarta, Medan, Palembang, Bandung, Purwokerto, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Bali, Makassar, Balikpapan, Cirebon, Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru.
The rollout is being accelerated elsewhere by the adoption of a new technological solution dubbed ‘AirPON’ which the Chinese vendor states comprises the Blade OLT, the DQ ODN (Digital QuickODN), eAI ONT and iMaster NCE. Huawei claims AirPON ‘helps mobile operators quickly develop high-quality gigabit fibre broadband services … [and] shortens the [time to market] of optical fibre construction by 70%, reducing the [return on investment] period from six years to three years.’ The implementation of this solution has been carried out at Vila Nusa Indah in the city of Bogor, XL said.
