4 million email threats, 4.6 million URL attacks thwarted in 2021

With easy access to Internet and growing need to move businesses online, cyberattacks have become a constant threat.

To combat and successfully predict future attacks on businesses, Trend Micro has been working for the last three decades to provide companies with solutions that can predict as well as counter any attacks in networks, servers or individual computers in a business setup.

According to an annual cybersecurity report for 2021 compiled by Trend Micro – one of the global leaders in cybersecurity solutions based in Japan – over 4mn email threats and more than 4.6mn URL victim attacks were detected and blocked across Oman. Additionally, 700,607 malware attacks were identified and stopped.

Speaking during COMEX 2022 last week, Assad Arabi, managing director of Gulf Cluster at Trend Micro, said, “These recent figures indicate that throughout the evolving threat landscape, organisations need to adopt multilayered solutions to be able to protect their operations against more sophisticated attacks from cybercriminals.

“We at Trend Micro look forward to working closely with organisations in Oman from the public and private sectors, and want to strengthen their digital strides as they advance the country’s capabilities in a new digital era.”

Arabi added that platforms like COMEX provide the best opportunity for the company to showcase its state-of-the-art solutions and expertise, and share insights that will bolster the digital capabilities of organisations across industries in the sultanate.

Arabi said that there is an urgent need for IT personnel in companies to be constantly updated about the latest cyberthreats. “We have over 500,000 sensors feeding us with constant information in the web of any probable attacks, threats and mischief. Our R&D team too works continuously feeding and analysing the information and accordingly the team can predict attacks from any direction.”

The company launched Trend Micro One last month, for which ten companies have signed up. It is a single cybersecurity platform with a growing list of ecosystem technology partners that enables organisations to better understand, communicate and lower cyber risks.

This unified approach delivers a continuous life cycle of risk and threat assessment with attack surface discovery, cyber risk analysis, and threat mitigation and response.

Trend Micro One is a security console to counter modern threat actors and their stealthy attacks. “The new platform allows them to dissect security incidents faster, identify critical threat patterns and complex attacks and understand their overall security posture and trends,” Arabi said.
