German cable operator Tele Columbus has announced that it has upgraded its fixed broadband networks to enable maximum speeds of 1Gbps for 75,000 households in Potsdam, Freiberg, Halberstadt and Quedlinburg. The company, which provides services under the brand name PYUR, states that in total 700,000 homes within its network footprint have so far benefited from the DOCSIS 3.1 rollout, with the technological upgrade expected to reach the ‘vast majority’ of its 2.4 million cable homes by mid-2023. DOCSIS 3.1 technology was first rolled out by Tele Columbus for around 500,000 households in Berlin in August 2019 and in December 2021 the firm embarked on a wider rollout across the rest of its network, starting with 69,000 homes in Flensburg, Offenbach, Frankfurt am Main, Aschersleben and Naumburg.
