Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Anatel) has disclosed plans to stage a 45-day public consultation regarding the suitability of the 4.9GHz band to support 5G technology. In presenting his analysis of the band, Anatel official Moises Queiroz Moreira suggested that the spectrum could be freed up by reducing the amount of spectrum currently used for point-to-point radio links and Public Security and Civil Defence (Seguranca Publica e Defesa Civil, PPDR). The consultation is expected to take place in the second half of 2022.
