Omantel, the sultanate’s foremost integrated telecom service provider, is adding more edge to its 5G offerings. The first telco to introduce 5G in Oman has now partnered with South Korean mobile network operator, LG Uplus Corporation, owned by LG Group.
A memorandum of understanding underscoring collaboration and knowledge exchange on 5G specialized services provided by LG Uplus was signed by Talal Al Mamari, CEO of Omantel, and Hyeon-sik Hwang, CEO of LG Uplus, in Barcelona recently.
The expansive scope of the MoU includes Augmented reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Multiview, Timeslice solution and any potential business cooperation opportunities on XR platforms.
Commenting on this exclusive agreement, Aladdin Baitfadhil, Acting Chief Commercial Officer at Omantel, said, “Omantel’s 5G footprint is rapidly growing across the Sultanate. We continue to explore areas where the technology is leveraged to create more exciting experiences way beyond high-speed internet. Hyeon-sik Hwang, CEO of LG Uplus, said, “This MoU will mark the first step to creating valuable 5G business synergies between LG Uplus and Omantel. We hope to bring our high quality XR services to the consumers of Omantel in the near future.”
