Telecom Italia's low-cost brand Kena has begun informing customers of the launch of its voice over LTE (VoLTE) service ahead of the switchoff of TIM’s 3G network, reports Mondo Mobile Web, citing an update to the operator’s website. The upgrade will enable customers with compatible phones to make calls with improved voice quality and quicker connection times while accessing the internet, said the operator.
Kena added that customers will be able to access the upgraded network via phones from numerous vendors, including Alcatel, Honor, Huawei, Motorola, Oppo, Realme, Samsung, TCL, Vivo and Xiaomi. TIM last year confirmed that it would gradually decommission the 3G network to free up spectrum for 4G-LTE starting in April 2022 with a view to enhancing both 4G and 5G in the future.
