Telekom and 1&1 finalise FTTH network sharing agreement

Telekom Deutschland, the domestic fixed and mobile unit of Deutsche Telekom, has announced it has concluded plans to allow 1&1 to access its growing fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, following the signing of a deal twelve months ago.

In February last year 1&1 affiliate 1&1 Versatel entered into an agreement with Telekom on the use of its FTTH and VDSL connections for households for a period of ten years. This will enable 1&1 Versatel to provide FTTH and VDSL complete packages for 1&1, as 1&1 Versatel’s nationwide transport network is largely connected to the local broadband networks of Telekom. In the past few months, both companies have clarified the necessary aspects with regards to processes and products. Following the latest development, 1&1 will now be able to market its own fibre-optic telecoms services to customers nationwide via the Telekom network. By the end of 2024 Telekom plans to supply around ten million households with fibre-optics.
