Mobile network operator XL Axiata, working in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCI, or KemKominfo’s) Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), has entered into a programme to provide 4G cellular coverage at 132 key points in Sumatra.
The sites identified are in the ‘Frontier, Outermost, Disadvantaged Regions (3T)’ and their inclusion forms part of the government’s digital inclusion policy. Under the plan, XL Axiata will deploy its network to remote rural locations in Area 1-Sumatra, in the Provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, Lampung, and Riau Islands.
