Zong 4G subscribers increased by 3.8 million in 2021

The number of China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak)’s subscribers was increased by 3,786,339 (3.8 million) to 40,498,899 during 2021, according to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)’s latest statistics.

China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak) is a 100% owned subsidiary of China Mobile Communications Corporation, which operates with Zong 4G in Pakistan.

The number of Zong 4G subscribers in Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan was increased from one million to 1.04 million in 2021.

According to PTA statistics, CMPak’s market share in 2021 was increased to 22.62% from 22.03% in 2020. In 2007, its market share was only 2%, but Zong has seen exponential growth in the last few years to increase it by manifold. Zong is the pioneer of overseas set-up of China Mobile by acquisition of a license from Millicom to operate a GSM network in Pakistan, according to Zong official website.

CMPak is one of the four mobile operators in Pakistan; the others include Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited (Jazz), Telenor Pakistan Limited and Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited (Ufone).

According to PTA, the country has 189 million cellular subscribers, 108 million 3G/4G subscribers, two million basic telephony subscribers and 110 million broadband subscribers. CMPak claims to have the largest 4G subscriber base and the widest 4G coverage across the country.
