Mobile operator MegaFon Tajikistan announced on its website that its number of 3G/4G base stations increased by nearly 25% over the course of 2021, while it added more than 400 4G base stations alone during the year. In FY21 LTE coverage was expanded to various settlements across five districts for the first time – Khovaling and Baljuvon districts of Khatlon region, Murgab and Roshtkala districts of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region and Zafarabad district of Sughd region. The operator highlights that it is placing special emphasis on the development of the 4G network, including in some remote rural locations.
Technical Director Rafil Aglyamov stated: ‘When mobile internet comes to small towns, it changes the way people live. So, you no longer need to go to the regional centre to connect a favourable tariff at the customer service office, you can do the same yourself in the MegaFon Life application. Shopping is becoming more convenient in online stores. You can get online consultations from doctors – for this there is, for example, the medical portal Yakdu. By expanding the geography of the 4G network, we offer new convenient solutions to many everyday issues.’
