Thai telecoms operator AIS has announced the launch of a 2Gbps fibre-optic fixed broadband service for home customers. The new high speed offering is currently available in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan, with two packages offering maximum down/upload speeds of 2Gbps/500Mbps for THB1,299 (USD38.7) or THB1,699 per month. In addition, a 1.5Gbps/500Mbps plan is being rolled out in 15 provinces (Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Pathom, Rayong, Ayutthaya, Songkhla, Surat Thani, Phuket, Phitsanulok, Khon Kaen and Udon Thani) for THB1,299 per month. In total, AIS’s fibre-optic network reaches 3.5 million households in Greater Bangkok and over eight million homes in all 77 provinces nationwide.
In a press release, AIS said it has teamed up with ‘world class partners’ to develop the Smart Optical Converter (2.5Gbps) to deliver 2Gbps network speeds to customers’ homes. ‘After six years, AIS has absolutely transformed the home internet market with its focus on quality and innovation. We were the first and only operator to launch home internet delivering a maximum speed of 1Gbps with 100% fibre service,’ stated Kitti Ngarmchatetanarom, Head of Fixed Broadband Department at AIS, adding: ‘Now we are extremely proud to have developed capabilities for our network to fulfill the needs of customers who now have to work from home, learn from home and play from home, and require support for trends like the Metaverse. Such needs are now supported by lightning-fast 2Gbps speeds for the first time, delivered directly to customers’ homes.’
