Liberty Networks Germany begins rolling out FTTH

Liberty Networks Germany, Liberty Global’s new German joint venture with InfraVia Capital, has begun rolling out fibre-to-the home under the helloFiber brand.

Liberty Networks Germany will carry out demand aggregation to identify areas where the roll out will be deployed. The expansion will kick off with construction of an area-wide FTTH network in Petershagen-Eggersdorf, Brandenburg.

More than 7,000 homes and businesses are set to benefit from Gigabit connectivity, with the project scheduled for completion in the next two years, according to Liberty.

Liberty Global brings the experience and expertise it gained through its ownership of cable networks Unitymedia and Kabel Baden-Württemburg in North-Rhine Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-Württemburg before selling up to Vodafone in 2019.

The pair set up the JV in September, with a plan to take what Liberty Global describes as a modular approach, with the first phase targeting a small number of municipalities in Germany.

“With Liberty Networks Germany, we are now focusing on pure fibre rollout looking at cities in areas not served by gigabit. The aim is to quickly create opportunities for individual fibre connections as a reliable partner for municipalities.” said Robert Dunn, Managing Director, Connectivity Investments at Liberty Global.
