German cable operator Tele Columbus has announced that it has begun the upgrade of its broadband networks to enable maximum speeds of 1Gbps.
The company, which provides services under the brand name Pyur, states that the ‘vast majority’ of the 2.4 million homes within its network footprint will benefit from the move. DOCSIS 3.1 technology was first rolled out by Tele Columbus for around 500,000 households in Berlin in August 2019 and the firm has now embarked on a more widescale rollout across the rest of its network, starting with 69,000 homes in Flensburg, Offenbach, Frankfurt am Main, Aschersleben and Naumburg. The network upgrade programme is expected to be completed by mid-2023.
