TFL fiber expansion takes in over 5,000 homes in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka

Fijian operator Telecom Fiji Ltd (TFL) has revealed that as part of its ongoing rollout of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology more than 5,000 homes in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka now have access to its ultra-fast fiber broadband services. TFL chief executive Charles Goundar noted that his company is investing FJD180 million (USD87.1 million) over the next five years and accelerating deployment in the face of rising demand – compounded by the need for people to work from home during the pandemic.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, last month TFL said that its rollout of FTTH fixed broadband and wireless 4G+ services continues to gather momentum, with coverage being increased to deliver high speed internet direct to users’ doors. In particular, the company is investing heavily in fibre and upgrading and replacing legacy copper or HFC cable infrastructure. To date, it has made the following areas ‘fibre-ready’: the Central/Eastern Division, including Bayview, Rifle Range, Namadi Heights, Suva Point, Navurevure, Upper Bureta suburbs, and Nailuva, and in the Western Division including Kennedy Avenue in Nadi and the Simla suburb in Lautoka. Furthermore, the rollout of fibre-optic ground works continues in Domain, Borron Street, Lower Bureta and Upper Wailoku.
