Tigo El Salvador has confirmed that work is underway to increase mobile download speeds for more than three million Salvadorans in 187 municipalities, as it seeks to increase its LTE population coverage to 95% by year-end. In addition, Tigo will expand its fixed broadband networks to serve an additional 344,000 inhabitants in 39 municipalities across the country. Part of the upgrade work will involve Tigo digitising its legacy cable TV networks to support broadband access. Finally, Tigo says it will ‘expand and modernise’ the networks it uses to serve corporate clients using fibre-optic connectivity.
Edgard Grande, CEO of Tigo El Salvador, commented: ‘We have made 30% progress in the coverage project and 60% in the capacity increase, and we continue working at a rapid pace because we are convinced that our digital highways must be wide, fast and stable to enable economic growth.’
