Angola's mobile operator Unitel invests in 5G services

Angolan mobile phone company Unitel has so far invested 25 million U.S. dollars in technology innovation and digital upgrades to prepare for the launch of the 5G service in the country.

The largest mobile operator in Angola said that the upgrades would allow more devices to access the mobile internet at the same time and make the company's services more available in urban centers.

"This is an action that will allow the consolidation of the extension of services and prepare the basic infrastructure for 5G," it added.

In partnership with Ericsson, Unitel began network improvement works in September, in Luanda, Benguela, and Cuanza Sul, with similar projects to follow in other provinces.

The modernisation programme will improve the quality of 3G and 4G services as well as support 5G rollout, with 400 cell sites covered by the deployments thus far. Completion of the initial three-province project is set for December.

Meanwhile, the latest generation radio equipment from the manufacturer Ericsson is being installed to increase the offer of 3G, 4G, and 4.5G services, which will include more than 400 locations with Unitel antennas.
