The Bulgarian incumbent Vivacom, which is part of United Group, plans to invest up to €120 million this year on developing its 5G infrastructure.
In a wide-ranging interview with Capital>, Adras Pali, the company’s CTO and management board member, added that upgrading and expanding the infrastructure and coverage of its 5G network is a major focus, dictated by the need – market, economic, social and technological – to be relevant and justify trust.
Pali referred to a study by the Pragmatics Agency at the end of July that showed 79% of Bulgarians said they would use a 5G network in their daily lives.
The study also showed that almost half (49%) of Bulgarians would use 5G to watch video online but only 14% stream and upload video content.
However, in Pali’s view the evolution of 5G is likely to change these attitudes, stimulating the emergence of all sorts of new services that have not even yet been thought about.
Vivacom’s 5G network currently has the largest coverage in Bulgaria.
