Austrian MVNO Spusu expects to launch its own 5G Standalone (SA) network in the first half of next year, reports Der Standard, citing LTEforum.at. Spusu has already begun the rollout of its own base stations and plans to invest EUR10 million (USD11.6 million) in the development of its operations over the next three years. By mid-2022 a total of 35 transmitters are expected to officially go live.
In March 2019 Spusu’s parent Mass Response acquired 30MHz of 5G-suitable spectrum for the Lower Austria and Burgenland regions. The firm paid EUR1.8 million for the 3410MHz-3440MHz frequencies, with licences valid for 20 years until 31 December 2039. Spusu has said it will continue to operate as an MVNO over the network of Hutchison Drei Austria alongside its 5G business.
