Buenos Aires-based B2B connectivity provider Grupo Datco has unveiled plans to stage a fixed-wireless 5G trial using equipment from an unnamed Chinese vendor.
According to BNAmericas, the company will utilise its existing 3.5GHz WiMAX/LTE frequencies to test 5G during the remainder of 2021 and the first six months of 2022. CEO Horacio Martinez stressed that a full migration from 4G technology to 5G is not guaranteed however, noting: ‘New technologies are generally more expensive and therefore require innovative solutions. Doing the same as before but more expensive does not interest me.’
