Telefónica Deutschland launches prepaid IoT tariff

Telefónica Deutschland / O2 has unveiled the details of a new IoT tariff, which will bring Narrow Band IoT (NB-IoT) to its entire mobile network on a prepaid basis.

Using a network of battery-powered sensors, O2 Business Easy IoT has been designed to give the operational visibility needed to manage the cost of connectivity, and scale reach.

Complementing IoT Connect, itself launched in March 2016, the new tariff supports 2G, 4G and NB-IoT, extending to LTE-M from December, "to enable even more connections". The package offers price differences "of up to 250%".

"I am convinced that our new O2 Business Easy IoT prepaid tariff portfolio makes infrastructure sensor networking extremely attractive for companies due to a simple tariff structure and an outstanding price-performance ratio," said Karsten Pradel, director B2B at Telefónica Deutschland.

"Combining a fully available NB-IoT machine network with the new IoT prepaid tariff, we are giving the growing Massive IoT market in Germany a major boost and are significantly driving digitalisation for the benefit of business and society," Pradel added.

Telefónica Deutschland/ O2 said the tariff will make IoT connectivity "affordable for a broad market", via three rate plans: Easy IoT World with 750 MB; Easy IoT EU+UK with 1,000 MB; and Easy IoT Germany with 1,500 MB.

Depending on the selected tariff, customers receive a data package for a one-time fee of €10 per SIM card, which they can use flexibly over a period of 10 years. Telefónica Deutschland said the data volume is "usually sufficient for the entire lifetime of the device".
