DIGI Romania (RCS&RDS) has announced the launch of new ‘Fiberlink’ fibre broadband packages providing download speeds of 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps, which it claims to be the country’s fastest broadband connection. The new services will initially be available to customers in Bucharest’s Sector 1 under a three-stage rollout, before being offered throughout the capital in December and the regions from 2022, starting with Brasov, Cluj, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi, Oradea and Timisoara. The Fiberlink 10Gbps subscription is priced at RON50 (USD11.7) a month including tax and the 2.5Gbps option RON45.
DIGI vice-president Valentin Popoviciu commented: ‘Romania is included, starting today, in the category of states where the new generation of digital services operates, thanks to Fiberlink 10G fibre-optic internet technology. It is a courageous initiative of our company, through which we want to significantly improve the customer experience and, we hope, provide access to the internet of the future.’
The leader in Romania’s fixed broadband sector with market share of approximately 60% at 30 June 2021, DIGI’s fibre-optic network passed 7.7 million homes at the end of 2020 – some 84% of the country’s households.
