UAE unblocks WhatsApp and Skype calling services for visitors at Expo 2020 Dubai

The UAE authorities have unblocked internet calls for visitors at Expo 2020 site.

The authorities would let people make calls over WhatsApp and other internet apps in the grounds of the Expo 2020 Dubai world fair.

The news was first reported by international news agency, Reuters.

Most of the applications use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, a system that allows free internet-to-internet voice and video calls.

It has been blocked in the UAE.

On Wednesday, several people were found to have been able to make and take voice calls using WhatsApp and Skype from the Expo site.

The site will open to businesses and exhibitors from almost 200 countries on Friday.

Dubai is set to welcome 25 million business and tourist visits to the world fair, that will boost its economy.

The government allows residents to use licensed services such as BOTIM.
