The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is planning to hold an auction for 5G spectrum in December 2021, with a 5G service launch currently slated by 2023, The Business Standard writes.
Shahidul Alam, director-general of the BTRC’s Spectrum Department, was cited as saying that the regulator has awarded 60MHz of airwaves in the 3.5GHz band to Bangladeshi state-owned operator Teletalk to facilitate the 5G introduction. The BTRC will distribute the remaining 400MHz of spectrum in the 3.5GHz band to other operators via a tender.
