O2 Slovakia has switched on commercial 5G services in 15 towns and cities in the west of the country.
The firm opened a trial 5G network in parts of Bratislava in October 2020, inviting customers with capable handsets to try out the faster technology, and now says commercial services are available in Bratislava and 14 other markets.
It says it is hoping to have achieved 20% population coverage with its network by the end of this year. O2 says customers connecting to the 5G system can currently expect real-world download speeds of at least 500Mbps. Rival operators Slovak Telekom (ST) and Orange launched commercial 5G services in December 2020 and May 2021, respectively.
