Globenet starts construction of second data center in Fortaleza, Brazil

Globenet, which provides wholesale telecommunications and edge data center services in Latin America, says it has begun construction of a new edge data center in Fortaleza, Brazil. The facility will be integrated with Globenet's ecosystem of content providers, service providers, and internet exchanges, as well as Globenet's low-latency submarine network and redundant terrestrial backhaul networks. The company’s submarine network spans 26,000 km (see, for example, "GlobeNet offers 100-Gbps wavelengths between Brazil, US" and "GlobeNet, Facebook launch Malbec submarine network construction").

The new data center is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2022. When it comes online, it will triple the number of racks and power currently available in Globenet's existing data center in Fortaleza. Globenet expects to use the data center to offer customized and flexible services in a neutral environment for local and international carriers, OTT service providers, ISPs, and CDNs.

Fortaleza is a landing site for a wide variety of submarine cable systems, including EllaLink, Monet, the South Atlantic Cable System, and South Atlantic Interlink, among others. "As the third-largest interconnection point in South America, after Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza is the gateway to 50 million people through Northeastern Brazil," commented Eduardo Falzoni, CEO of Globenet.

"This new data center will contribute to Brazil's digital economy expansion and is yet another testament of our commitment to provide the most advanced connectivity and data center solutions for people and businesses in the region," added Fabio Laguado, CCO of Globenet.
