Mobile operator XL Axiata has revealed that over the past twelve months it has been working to improve its 4G LTE coverage in areas that were previously ‘unreachable’ in Banten Province.
With mobile data traffic in the region increasing by more than 75% in the last two years, XL is responding to rising demand for data while also continuing to fiberize the network to increase capacity.
Region Group Head XL Axiata Jabodetabek, Sofia Purbayanti, told IndoTelko that as a result of recent expansion work, the cellco’s 4G network in Banten stretches to 154 sub-districts and 918 sub-districts/villages in all cities and regencies, with a total of 4.5 million subscribers.
Throughout Banten, XL has a total of 2,300 base transceiver stations (BTS) in Tangerang Regency, including more than 1,100 4G BTS. Other breakdowns reported include: Tangerang City/environs 1,800 BTS, including more than 800 4G BTS; South Tangerang City, 1,700 BTS, including 780 4G BTS; Serang City, 800 BTS, with the number of 4G BTS reaching more than 300; Serang Regency with more than 1,400 BTS, almost 500 of which are 4G-enabled; Cilegon City (600 BTS, 200 of which 4G); Lebak Regency (850 BTS, of which 250 are 4G); and Pandeglang Regency which is supported by around 1,000 BTS, including 300 4G BTS. Furthermore, to support the construction of the Tanjung Lesung Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as well as the tourism locations of Anyer beach, Carita Bay, and Sawarna Beach, XL Axiata is ready to deploy more 4G BTS in these areas. Currently, at the beach tourism location in Banten, more than 130 4G BTS have been built, it said.
Meanwhile, to support services in all provinces on the western tip of Java Island, it currently operates a total of more than 10,700 BTS, including more than 4,000 4G BTS.
