Satellite Internet provider Starlink, operated by South African billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX, could launch service in the Czech Republic as early as September 1, 2021.
In addition to the launch date, records obtained by Czech media from the Czech Telecommunication Office show that the Starlink service branch in Dublin will commence providing Internet services throughout the Czech Republic.
According to Czech server Lupa.cz, it's not immediately clear whether end services will officially be available to Czech users in two weeks. The site goes on to report that though it's possible to check availability for Czech addresses on the starlink.com website, Starlink will not actually cover the territory until 2022.
Lupa reports that the September date possibly indicates the beginning of connection testing or that "the information provided by the company is out of date."
The satellite internet project, which will cover the entire globe, intends to offer coverage to remote areas. The Starlink satellite dish and router cost $499 (roughly CZK 10,000).
The beta version of the service is already available in 12 countries, including neighboring Germany and Austria. Starlink has already launched over 1,700 satellites into orbit, about 1,400 of which are fully functional. But Musk has said he would like to have tens of thousands of satellites in orbit.
A report issued by the company in August, shows that it already provides services to 90,000 users. It also suggests that the priority of future satellites will be to increase speed, reduce latencies, and strengthen connections.
The Internet connection speed is between 50 Mbp/s and 150 Mbp/s and the latency is between 20 ms and 40 ms.
