Japanese gear makers NEC and Fujitsu have reportedly teamed up to speed up the deployment of Open RAN base station equipment with the aim of driving growth in the 5G market.
Computer Weekly writes that the pair are developing technologies for interoperability testing between 5G base station equipment conforming to Open RAN specifications at test facilities in the UK and the US. NEC and Fujitsu say the basic aim of the initiative – set up as part of the ‘Post-5G Infrastructure Enhancement R&D Project’ under the umbrella of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO) of Japan – is designed to improve the efficiency of interoperability verification.
