Brazil’s Minister of Communications Fabio Faria has indicated that the country’s delayed 5G spectrum auctions will finally take place in October this year.
According to Reuters, the minister’s comments followed a meeting of the Federal Court of Accounts (Tribunal de Contas da Uniao, TCU) held on 18th August to discuss the auction.
As reported by TeleGeography, the meeting saw a clear majority vote in favour of holding the spectrum auction imminently, but with one judge calling for an additional 30-day period to examine some of the terms of the proposal.
Brazil has delayed its 5G spectrum auctions several times. Spectrum in the 700MHz, 2.3GHz and 3.5GHz bands will be available alongside 26GHz millimetre wave (mmWave) frequencies.
