LCC, Globe present webinar to empower communities with digital technology

The Liveable Cities Challenge (LCC), in partnership with the League of Cities of the Philippines and Globe Telecom, is set to host another knowledge sharing discussion to help equip cities in designing better solutions.

For its fifth webinar this year, LCC and Globe will present the Liveable Cities Labs: Empowering Communities through Technology on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 3-5pm.

During this Liveable Cities Lab, speakers and panelists will share innovations on digital technology in light of the pandemic. Executives from invited local government units (LGUs) are also expected to give their insights and learnings on how their communities are using technology to work, learn, and play in the new normal.

Speakers include Mayor Antonio Joseph “Jopet” Inton of the Municipality of Hermosa, Bataan; Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit, Founder and Managing Director of Stratbase Group; Iloisa Romaraog-Diga, CEO of Session Groceries; and Vince Tempongko, VP for Site Acquisition and Management of Globe Telecom.

“Technology can spur development in many sectors in communities across the country. It can be used in such diverse sectors as agriculture, education, health, environment, tourism, environment, and commerce. Technology enables cities, businesses, and organizations to develop better processes, improve city services, advocate for causes, and improve the lives of people,” said Bill Luz, Chief Resilience Officer of the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation and moderator of the LCC, Globe Lab Webinar Series.

Discussions will also include how the COVID-19 pandemic has deeply affected society and the economy. How the global health emergency has strained all sectors, from education, agriculture, travel and tourism, and emergency response; this will likely be the case for the near future. And more importantly, in these challenging times, digital technology has become a lifeline in keeping our society functional in a time of lockdowns and quarantines.

“Even as it disrupts life, the pandemic has accelerated digital adoption among Filipinos. Out of necessity, more people and organizations have shifted to digital transactions–telehealth, e-payments, e-commerce, and other digital-enabled activities. As we move towards recovery, this digital transition is expected to continue and become a permanent fixture in our daily lives,” added Luz.
