Proximus begins FTTP deployment in Mons

Belgian full-service operator Proximus has announced it has begun deploying its FTTP network in the city of Mons and surrounding areas. According to the company’s schedule, more than 10,000 homes and businesses in Mons city centre and the neighbouring town of Jemappes will have access to fibre by the end of this year, at a rate of more than 1,000 housing units per month. In 2022 the rollout will continue in other areas of the city and the villages of Cuesmes and Nimy, adding up to more than 30,000 additional homes and businesses. Deployment will then continue in Greater Mons and neighbouring areas to reach more than 50,000 units – the equivalent of 95% of homes and businesses in Greater Mons – by the end of 2028. The rollout will take place in phases, in close consultation with the city council.

Proximus’s FTTP deployment is already underway in 18 Belgian cities, passing more than 533,000 homes and businesses. The company aims to connect as many as 4.2 million households and companies to fibre – equivalent to 70% national fibre coverage – by the end of 2028.
