Altice Europe-owned French service provider SFR has launched an Android TV-based TV option as part of its low-cost brand offering Red by SFR, along with a new TV application for smartphones and tablets.
SFR said it was including the TV service as part of Red by SFR as part of an enriched basic internet offering.
The new Red TV application for smartphones and tablets includes 35 TV channels, including 27 digital-terrestrial services, and access to catch-up TV and VOD, along with eight hours of cloud DVR storage.
Subscribers can also upgrade to TV Red Plus, offering a larger choice of 100 channels for an additional €4 a month, available on smartphones and tablets via the app.
In addition to the phone app, SFR is also launching a set-top based offering via a new Android TV box, dubbed Connect TV, for €19 a month.
The 4K HDR Dolby Vision-based box is compatible with Dolby Atmos audio and is based on the Android TV 9.0 operating system. It comes with a voice-enabled remote control, integrated Chromecast functionality and direct access to third-party services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Connect TV can be connected via any internet network or WiFi, giving users the flexibility to take it with them on the move or on holiday.
The TV offering is part of a revamped Red by SFR, which provides fibre-based internet at €25 a month, or €19 via ADSL. Users can access fibre internet speeds of up to 300Mbps.
Red by SFR is offered as a low-cost option with no ongoing contract commitment. Mobile services are included as part of the brand from €5 a month without a contract.
